At Elena and Adrian’s wedding, local tradition states that two wedding processions meeting must swap brides. Adrian’s childhood friend Sofia boldly kisses the groom and sends Elena over to the other procession instead — to marry mafia boss Dante. Adrian gives his silent consent the whole time. Heart‑broken, Elena accepts the twist of fate and marries Dante. Though Dante appears cold and ruthless, he gives Elena respect and cherishment she has never known. The nominal husband and wife slowly fall in love, and Elena lives as her true self under Dante’s protection. Adrian learns to value her only after losing her. He pesters her repeatedly to reconcile, only to receive Elena’s reply: “What’s gone is gone.” In the end, Elena carries Dante’s child and lives a genuinely happy life.
